Sex and the city?

what do ppl see in it...it has no storyline - well, maybe "lets go shoe shopping! and on the way have sex with anything with two legs" i mean what the ****? i cant believe ppl see these ppl as role models....no wonder theres so much teen pregnancies ( erm my friends watch that **** and think its cool, no suprise i ahve 4 friends with kids - im 16) and so many women willin to be cheap to lead a lifestyle like the characters - they dont show the pregnancy or the stis - the side effects of causal sex in sex and the city - so, what is it ppl like about the program???|||Sex and the City (HBO) broke out some very stuffy ceilings when they premiered at the cable channel. They brought forth the much maligned and taboo subject - sex - and made it the centerpiece of their storylines, sometimes funny, oftentimes harrowing, and the occasional weird story, but the most important contribution it had to TV pop culture was: "It's alright to talk about sex."

They dealt with so many issues related to sex in their 6 seasons, like anal sex, S and M, "water sports", "swinging" - the literal swing and the colloquial definition of swapping partners, lesbianism, unwanted pregnancies, inability to get pregnant, surviving a sexless marriage, cancer and how it does not choose its victims based on sexual behavior, using sex as power - that if you peel away the "shock factor" of all the "sex", you would see very truly human concerns that bind all of us.

These concerns range from wanting to please a partner so badly to do anything just to keep it going; the rejection one faces from a clan for not being able to have children; having single parenthood in mind because of the unwillingness to have a man come in and take over your life; having yourself rejected over and over despite your thinking of :there's nothing wrong with me"...I could go on and on with how the show has actually broken new ground for women in television.

Series like Desperate Housewives and other "female centered" ones owe a lot of their foreground to SATC, which had four women archetypes: Carrie - the write/columnist, who acts as the conduit of the foursome; Miranda - the pessimistic, realistic lawyer who values her singlehood above all; Charlotte - the straight laced, "I believe in true love and soul mates" idealist who refused to settle her convictions to any man, unless he was the right one; and Samantha - the outspoken, libertine "sex-pot" who racked up more guys than a gay man.

One of the stresses of the show is that unprotected sex can lead to unwanted pregnancies (Miranda storyline with Steve), and it showed how her priorities and life changed with the impending baby - this happened to a lawyer who was a partner in the firm and self sufficient, and is financially capable - and it still threw her for a loop! The message was actually, "Nothing can prepare you for an unwanted baby, no matter how successful you think you are".

And Carrie's shoe fetish? It's a TV show, and advertisements are part of the game. They did turn it into an iconic state though, what with the Manolos and Jimmy Choos being paraded around, it sometime seemed like a fashion show with a script. I wasn't too fond of it either, but they were in New York, and just like "The Devil Wears Prada" showed, you get caught up in fashion because everyone is wearing them! You tend to stick out like a sore thumb if you don't "dress up", something about Wall Street makes you feel naked if you don't put yourself together.

If you get a chance to borrow the series, start it from season 1 - you will appreciate it if you know them from the very beginning.|||lol have u actually watched this show? from ur incorrect assumptions of it, im guessing not. Its designed for 16 year olds such as yourself. Its designed for women who are actually at a more mature age to be having sex. The show even deals with the age issue at one point in one of the episodes, stressing how important it is to have a childhood. your friends would not have picked up any ideas from this tv show. they were too busy having sex to watch it.|||yeah they do show the consequences Carrie had an abortion Samantha had a couple they have all had and discussed std's Miranda got pregnant after casual sex with Steve so there|||I do not know..of course I do not watch sitcoms, they're boring!|||i think.. the same reason why people see the l word|||Television is nothing but mid-rot. Don't base what you do on what you see on the idiot box!
