The full moon has been linked to crime, suicide, mental illness, disasters, accidents, birthrates, fertility, and werewolves, among other things. Some people even buy and sell stocks according to phases of the moon, a method probably as successful as many others. Numerous studies have tried to find lunar effects. So far, the studies have failed to establish much of interest. Lunar effects that have been found have little or nothing to do with human behavior, e.g., the discovery of a slight effect of the moon on global temperature,* which in turn might have an effect on the growth of plants. Of course, there have been single studies here and there that have found correlations between various phases of the moon and this or that phenomenon, but nothing significant has been replicated sufficiently to warrant claiming a probable causal relationship. is all this True?|||I have read MANY studies that scientifically "prove" that people aren't any more nutty during a full moon than any other time. However, as a former EMT, and as a former Deputy Sheriff, and when I worked security in the ER of a hospital, I will tell you for a fact that I at least had more trouble with nutty people during the Full moon than any other time!|||According to the book 'Everything You Know is Wrong' by Paul Kirchner, the original study that determined more crimes and crazy behaviors happen during the full moon, managed to be done during a period where an unusual number of the full moons happened on weekends -- weekends tending to see rises in these behaviors anyway. As you say, it hasn't been replicated on the basis of moon phases since, so it seems to have just been the weekend, not the moon phase, causing the behaviors.|||Like every thing else in life people go through cycles. Since our hormones increase in decrease in cycles it could be possible that certain ones are the highest during the full moon. of course it would be a thing of chance.|||Maybe when it is a full moon it is lighter outside, so people can stay out later than normal?
I dunno, just a thought.
And how has the full moon been linked to mental illness and birthrates?|||Well, it's where the word 'Lunatic' came from! Excuse me, I'm off to howl at the moon.|||depends if they are partying with Luna's spirit.
