Has anyone experienced a decrease in libido from Depo Provera?

This is a bit embarrassing, but I have no libido - 0





The possible causal factors I can identify are:


1. Tired (just had a baby 6 months ago and am back at work 4 days a week)


2. Stressed (see above)


3. Breastfeeding


4. Depo Provera - contraceptive injection





I've been trying yoga and meditation for the stress and tiredness, and don't want to give up the breastfeeding, so that leaves the Depo.





Does anyone have any experience with it or have you read anywhere about drop in libido as a side effect?|||Depo Provera killed my libido deader than a doornail. This was years ago, but I'll never forget how de-sexed I felt while on it.





I'm a nursing mom too, and that doesn't help my sex drive, but at least I can get in the mood if I try. on Dep, I couldn't.|||it's my understanding that all contraceptives carry the possibility of a drop in libido. Depo has a lot of side effects (it made me lose a lot of my hair). I would check out the website for it.|||Yes, I did when I was on it (and it also meant I had difficulties getting physically aroused even if I did feel that I wanted to!) and when I stopped the injections all was ok again. I also could have put the decreased libido down to other things such as stress at work etc but all of that stayed the same after choosing to stop the injections so pretty sure it was the depo. I am pretty sure it is one of the side effects mentioned on the data sheet and generally it can be a side effect of any progestagens. I now take the progesterone only pill (as I cannot take oestrogens for medical reasons) and haven't found the same effect, I assume because the dosage is lower.


I think the key with contraceptives is to try different things until you find the one that suits you best.|||Definitely.

I was on it and am so glad I'm off of it now.|||Yes, that is probably the reason. It's pretty common and you should understand it probably is the drug. I have been in your situation and tried everything to regain my libido but nothing worked.
