Has anyone ever proven that carbon dioxide causes the greenhouse effect?

It seems to me that fingering CO2 as the culprit in the "greenhouse effect" is an act of faith rather than science. I was told that water vapor (i.e., clouds) are the cause of the greenhouse effect. Where is the causal link implicating carbon dioxide?|||I think what you are referring to is the global warming rather than the greenhouse effect.

The greenhouse effect is a natural occurrence on earth. Without it, life as we know it would not exist. It helps keep our planet warm enough to support life.

There are many natural greenhouse gases that occur in our atmosphere. Among them are carbon dioxide, water vapor, %26amp; methane. These gases help to insulate earth.

On the other hand, there is global warming which is an increase in average global temperature. This is not thought to be a good thing because it would cause the climate as we now know it to change.

Global warming is thought to be brought on by an addition of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. Since humans are releasing huge amounts of carbon that has been stored for many millions of years it is very likely that we are contributing to an increase in these temperatures.

However, there is a school of thought that believes we are overreacting to the global climate changes theorists. It is known that the earth has gone through many cycles of climate change since the beginning of the creation. Just because we are noticing it in our lifetime does not necessarily mean that all is doom %26amp; gloom.

Average global temperature data has only been recorded for the last 30 鈥?40 years. Before that we had no way of following climate trends so closely. What we do have is evidence that climate has changed suddenly and dramatically in the past. The evidence comes from ice cores %26amp; cave deposits known as stalactites. We can examine the oxygen isotopes found in them which serve the purpose of time machine. Everything that was locked up in them when they were created gives indications of what the climate was like at that period in time.

The question remains... are we the sole cause of global warming? No, I do not believe that we are. There are too many other variables to consider especially since we know that climate changes occurred long before humans existed.

Is it possible that we may be magnifying the effects of natural climate change? Yes, I do believe that we are contributing somewhat to an increase in greenhouse gases.

It is best in this case to err on the side of caution and monitor how much we are contributing to the increase of global temperatures. But before we revert back to riding horses %26amp; bicycles, I think that we should examine all the evidence a little more closely.

Hope this helps you!|||There are just as many studies refuting the claim that CO2 is responsible for the greenhouse effect as there are claimimg to prove it. Equally, the subject of the greenhouse effect itself is contentious. As you say, both are an act of faith, and seem to cause as much conflict as other faith-related questions.|||you can check the experiment here its already proven....|||look it up|||Water vapor and carbon dioxide both absorb radiation and contribute about equally to the greenhouse effect.
